In 1982, St. Louis was hit with a fierce snowstorm, with nearly two feet of powder falling over two days in many parts of the region. The late January flurry paralyzed the city for a week. In October, happier times took place when the Cardinals beat the Brewers in Game Seven to become World Series Champions. In November, the severe recession was declared over as unemployment teetered near 11 percent. And it’s also the year that CREW-St. Louis started its official run as the region’s premiere networking organization for women in commercial real estate.
It started simply. An opportunity for six women commercial real estate brokers to find their way in an industry dominated by men. Lynn Schenk, Donita Rachell, Vicki Dolan, Linda Guenther, Ellie Bush and Linda Poinsett met at Busch’s Grove to trade leads, share stories and discuss how they would work together in a business with very few women in leadership positions. While they actually started in 1977, they decided to take their network to the next level by forming the St. Louis chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women in 1982.
Yes, this year marks our chapter’s 35th anniversary of Celebrating, Rewarding and Elevating Women throughout our rich history.
Please make plans for our Signature event on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at The Caramel Room at Bissinger’s.
There will be a special tribute to those pioneers who blazed a trail, along with the many legacy members who continue the journey.
