Mentoring Our Youth

CREW-St. Louis once again stepped up to participate with the Parkway School District’s Virtual Enterprise Program. After participating in this event in 2016, we were once again asked to engage with the students. This year, CREW-St. Louis members volunteered on Sept. 1 and Sept. 8 to interview students for positions in the Virtual Enterprise Company, which the students had developed. Engaging with experienced professionals provided students within sights and experience from a real-world perspective.

Anne Zanola remarked of the experience: “Erin [Torney], Libbey [Tucker] and I enjoyed the experience at Parkway West High School last week.  Their class is starting a business and they were all applying for different positions within the company. We were paired with someone in the HR department (member of the class) and conducted mock interviews.”

Related to these efforts, CREW-St. Louis will host a multi-school competition from 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2017, at Washington University. Contact Member Services Chair Christy Merdinian to fill one of the 10-15 volunteer spaces needed to judge various student competitions (business plan pitch, sales pitch, booth design, web site, etc.).  Volunteers can judge as many or few events as they choose.  Students will use feedback from this event to improve their presentations/materials for the regional trade show later in the month.
