CREW-St. Louis members rocked Cleveland and their leadership skills when attending the 2018 CREW Network Spring Leadership Summit from June 20-22 in the city known for its rock n’ roll fame. Lynn Goessling (Chapter President), Michelle Yates (President Elect and National Delegate), Tracy Howren (National Delegate), Monica Conners (CREW Foundation Board and former Chapter President), and Angie Earlywine (Immediate Past President) represented CREW-St. Louis as they advanced their knowledge to lead our chapter.
The Summit took place at the Hilton located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, with fantastic views of both the city and Lake Erie. The CREW-St. Louis team kicked off their journey with Lynn, Michelle, Tracy and Monica enjoying an Italian dinner on Wednesday, June 20, evening, at Chinnato in the East Fourth commercial district. It also gave them time to network and discuss chapter business.
Rise and shine on Thursday morning as the Summit kicked off with Chapter Leadership Training from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cynthia D’Amour, a seasoned association executive consultant with more than 20 years of experience, led the discussion that focused on building enthusiasm to increase member engagement. Cynthia shared insights on strategic leadership, how to drive engagement and keep members coming back for more. She also provided tips to create meetings that members love to attend. The St. Louis team is excited to bring this knowledge and specific tools back to our chapter!
Leadership meetings followed this informative session. These smaller group meetings allowed members from different chapters to share best practices and challenges. Yes, your chapter representatives return with some great ideas and insights to move CREW-St. Louis forward. The day ended with a nice reception and dine-arounds at downtown Cleveland restaurants.
Up and at-um on Friday morning, the Council meeting provided updates on CREW Network initiatives and upcoming events for the organization, as well as voting on CREW Network business. We were excited to hear that more than 500 members are already registered for the CREW Network Convention in San Diego, with expectations that attendance will top 1,300! CREW Network also unveiled a new video available for chapter use, as well as new chapter management tools to greatly enhance what is already at our disposal.
More tools followed during a Best Practices Session, which highlighted CREW Toronto and CREW Cleveland’s successes in sponsorship and events. CREW Speak then gave members an opportunity to share both their chapter successes and challenges.
During a wonderful buffet lunch, Angela Mago, Head of Real Estate Capital from Key Bank, discussed her leadership journey. Her advice hits home: Take risks and be your authentic self.
Later on Friday afternoon Beth Hand, CEO of Leadership Hand, led a Development Training Session on Productive Conflict. The group learned how to utilize conflict to its advantage and to find productive ways to manage conflict when it arises. Now, who among us couldn’t benefit from this!
All of us found a great deal of value in the Summit. Most importantly, we look forward to applying this knowledge to benefit CREW-St. Louis.
As a reminder, these Leadership Summits are open to all CREW members. They are a great opportunity to sharpen your skills and network with the best in the industry - your fellow CREW Network members.
