As Chief Executive Officer of Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis, Kimberly is responsible for the overall operation of the St. Louis affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Locally, Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis has built more than 400 houses and operates two ReStores.  Kimberly’s primary duties include board recruitment and development, strategic planning, community relations and advocacy. 

Member Spotlight - Q&A with Kimberly McKinney

Q:        When did you decide to get into the commercial real estate industry? Was it always your focus?
A:      Interesting question as I rarely consider myself in the commercial real estate industry. When others suggested I consider joining CREW, I honestly didn’t consider myself eligible until they pointed out that Habitat owned one building of more than 50,000 square feet and leases another of similar size.  
Q:   What are some of the things you love about your job?
A:   I absolutely love the diversity of my days and the diversity of those I encounter. From donor to Habitat staff, volunteers to homebuyers, it is a blessing to learn from each of them and to see the passion for others that exists in our community.
Q:   What is your CREW-St. Louis origin? When did you join? Why did you become a member?
A:   A couple of different members (thank you Kathy Sorkin and Linda Loewenstein) suggested that I consider joining CREW. I have been a member since February 2017 and joined to meet others who seek to build a better St. Louis.  
Q:   What was the first CREW event you attended and what were your impressions?
A:   The first event I attended was at the Moto Museum and featured various speakers addressing the transportation industry. I remember being impressed with the quality of the presentation and wowed by the number of people in attendance.
Q:   Please name a few of the projects you’ve been involved in, specifically in the St. Louis area that you are proud of. 
A:   Most recently, the relocation of all things Habitat - our administrative offices, construction warehouse, and one of two ReStores, from Forest Park Avenue to South Grand. We did it on a tight timeline and a not-for-profit budget that required the participation of many. It was so rewarding to stand with more than 200 others about a year ago to collectively cut a ribbon that stretched the span of the building. That said, I am always proud of the homes that Habitat Saint Louis builds in partnership with our families and volunteers! 
Q:   What other associations or volunteer activities are you involved with?
A:   Board of Directors of Rise (formerly, RHCDA)
Board President of The Community Builders Network of Metro St. Louis, 
Board of Innovative Technology Education 
Current member of St. Louis Women’s Forum 
Policy Committee of U.S. Council, Habitat for Humanity International
Q:    What else would you like your fellow CREW-St. Louis members to know about you?
A:   I moved to St. Louis just more than 20 years ago never having visited and knowing no one but my husband, Kevin, who had moved here just months earlier. We now both very much consider St. Louis home.
