Katie Seibel, Central Bank of St. Louis
I Joined CREW: Now What?
So you joined CREW-St. Louis. That’s great but how do you step up and step out to become engaged and benefit from your membership. Katie Seibel shares her story on not only why she joined but also how she tapped into the Power of CREW-St. Louis.
Tell me about your role with Central Bank of St. Louis, how long have you been with CREW and how have you been involved with the organization through the years? I have been with Central Bank of St. Louis for seven years and am an Assistant Vice President of Commercial Lending with a focus in commercial real estate. I joined CREW-St. Louis in March 2016 and was a member of the Ambassador’s Committee for 2017 and 2018. Currently, I am the Chair of the Communications Committee.
What initially got you involved with CREW? Why do you think it’s a great organization? When I transitioned into lending from the credit side of banking, I began exploring ways to network with others in the industry. I made sure to do my homework and attended various events for several networking groups. I had often been asked by customers or other contacts if I was a member of CREW, so I knew it was a highly respected organization. I was immediately impressed by the overall quality of CREW-St. Louis – the application process, the members and the relevant monthly programs.
What are your suggestions on how to get the most out of your membership? As cliché as it may sound, my best suggestion is to dive right in. My only regret is that I didn’t join a committee as soon as I joined. Committees are a great way to meet fellow members in a smaller setting and gain perspective on what’s happening behind the scenes. I also recommend getting out of your comfort zone. If you meet someone new at a program, ask them to coffee or lunch to learn more about how you can work together. One of my favorite aspects of CREW is how open and accessible members are and how they have a genuine desire to engage with new and veteran members, alike.
What has been your favorite CREW event and/or program that you have attended since joining? And why? I joined in March 2016 which means that the August DineArounds were a few months after. I signed up for as many as my schedule would allow with the intention of meeting as many members as I could. I found that the small setting allowed me to make deeper connections with members. I went from knowing a handful of people to a sea of friendly faces in no time. Honorable mention: the annual Golf Classic, our Topgolf event and the tour of the Gateway Arch grounds.
When not working or attending CREW events, what do you like to do at the end of a long week? I most look forward to spending time with family and friends. I’m happiest outdoors, so a nice patio or bonfire in the backyard is my favorite.
If you could pick any destination in the world, what would be your dream vacation? I like a completely relaxing vacation, so I always pick the beach. My dream is to stay in a bungalow over the water in Fiji.
