Member Spotlight Q&A

Cassie Gresco
Business Development Director
Altman-Charter Company

Cassie Gresco is the Business Development Director at Altman-Charter Co., a construction management firm specializing in the planning, design and construction management for clients for more than 35 years.  Altman-Charter Co. performs more than 90 percent of its volume in the multifamily/senior housing and historic sector of the construction market with an extensive portfolio of projects funded through LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit), HUD funding, bond financing and USDA funding.

Cassie has been active in the construction industry since 2006. Her focus is client development and relations throughout the Midwest in the multifamily/senior housing market.

Q:     When did you decide to get into the commercial real estate industry? Was it always your focus?

A:    Growing up I was always a problem solver and an over thinker when it came to just about anything.  I wanted to pursue a career in criminal justice but changed my mind shortly after college when an opportunity in commercial real estate was offered to me. In 2006 I joined a local St. Louis commercial real estate firm and developed my love for the industry. During my career there my primary focus was in the development and procurement of their current hospitality portfolio. While I thoroughly enjoyed and learned a great deal from the real estate transaction and site development side of the company, I was always intrigued and drawn to the construction process of the projects. In 2016 I made a career move to Altman-Charter Co. where I had a great opportunity to follow my passion in the construction industry. I love being actively involved in all our projects from conception to completion.

Q:    What are some of the things you love about your job?

A:    I really enjoy all the client interaction. Understanding their mission and vision for a project and guiding them through the construction process.

Q:    What is your CREW-St. Louis origin? When did you join? Why did you become a member?

A:    I joined in October 2019. I was introduced to CREW-St. Louis while out to lunch one day with a fellow member and joined shortly thereafter.

Q:    What was the first CREW event you attended and what were your impressions?

A:    The first event I attended was the new member orientation. The energy was very positive and uplifting. I think my biggest take away after being a member for almost a year now has been how all the members are there to always help each other out and lift one another up!

Q:    Please name a few of the projects you’ve been involved in, specifically in the St. Louis area that you are proud of.

A:    Twain Financial, a 41,800 square-foot historic rehab on Washington Ave., featured a state-of-the-art glass elevator, skylights, finishes and solar panel energy. The project was completed in 2019. Metro Landing of Swansea was a 62-unit new construction affordable senior living project completed in December 2018. Currently, we are under construction on the Beaumont Building, a historic rehab in St. Louis consisting of 72 residential units with two additional overnight units and commercial space.

Q:     What other associations or volunteer activities are you involved with?

A:    MOWHA (Missouri Workforce Housing Association - Member)
        Adopt a Family (Volunteer)
St. Peters Police Wives Association (Member)

Q:    How has COVID-19 impacted you and your organization?

A:    In terms of job starts and sales activity, we haven’t slowed down. Staying in front of our clients has obviously become challenging, but we’ve come up with some creative ways to stay in touch while staying safe. COVID has made us take a harder look at our safety procedures, both in the office and on jobsites and we’ve implemented “Protocols” to ensure that the safety and well-being of our employee’s and construction partners are being met.

Q:    What else would you like your fellow CREW-St. Louis members to know about you?

A:    I grew up in Quincy, IL, and moved to the St. Louis area after college. I’m a soccer mom at heart! If I’m not at work I can be found at the soccer fields with at least one of my three kids, whether it’s a practice, a game or a tournament. As a former soccer player, I truly enjoy spending time at the fields sharing in their mutual love for the sport!
