College Students Learn About Industry Opportunities

CREW-St. Louis held its 3rd Annual Commercial Real Estate 101 Workshop on Feb. 25. We kept the event virtual to make it easier for college students to participate, especially for those away at school. More than 50 people registered for the workshop, which was a great turnout! Equally rewarding, a few attendees set up summer internships with Cushman & Wakefield.

Panelists and students provided feedback.

“I was thrilled when asked to speak as a panelist for the CREW-St. Louis CRE 101 event,” says Fallon Chambers of Gershman Commercial Real Estate. “As a newer female broker in the industry, I was excited to share my role in the industry and some of the experiences I have learned over the last year. It was really cool to engage with the students and answer their questions about the opportunities they can pursue after they graduate. Personally, I really didn’t know about the commercial real estate industry until well after college. I certainly would have attended such a workshop while in college. This workshop opens doors to consider in our industry.”

This includes comments from a student who happens to be the daughter of a CREW-St. Louis member, Erin Valentine with McCarthy Building Companies.

“I am a junior at the University of Arkansas, studying finance with a real estate concentration,” says Ashley Valentine. “My mom works at McCarthy Building Companies and is a CREW-St. Louis member. I attended this event to learn more about the career opportunities I may have with my degree. The program was well done and allowed me to quickly understand the multiple jobs and people that are involved in a construction project. This program really opened my eyes and answered a lot of questions I had about what the commercial real estate industry entailed. I wish I had this session earlier in my college career so I could have explored different internships and degree opportunities.”
