President’s Message

April 26, 2022

Hello Fellow CREW-St. Louis Members!

Happy Spring Greetings!  I hope this message finds you all doing well personally and professionally.

What an amazing first quarter in 2022! I thank our Committees for executing on our mission to advance, educate and support women to influence the commercial real estate industry. As a recap of the quarter, we held several large and small networking opportunities. I’m sure most of you attended or heard about these such as the Third Annual CRE 101 Virtual Workshop for local students who are interested in the commercial real estate industry; the Industrial Outlook program with leading industrial experts as presenters; an eye opening and informative DEI Movie Night about a local St. Louis school; Dine-arounds; coffees; hikes; and even a Wine and Bourbon Tasting! Our networking and in-person engagement was amazing!

Our 12 CREW-St. Louis Executive Board Members also participated in a two-day Strategic Planning Retreat facilitated by a CREW Network trained consultant to define our future strategy. I thank the Executive Board members that attended the Retreat: Nancy Petersen, Angie Drumm, Erin Valentine, Jane Maddox, Cindy Bambini, Melody Cooper, Sarah Luem, Ellen Mannion, Jen Nevil and Molly Studer. Their engagement led to candid and provoking conversations to develop this Strategic Plan. The Executive Board looks forward to rolling this out to our Advisory Board and overall Membership during Q2 2022.

As some of you know, one of my favorite events is right around the corner - the 17th Annual CREW-St. Louis Networking Awards  will be held on Wednesday evening, May 11, at Olive and Oak in Webster Groves!  As a preview, Marian Nunn, a local CRE legend, will emcee our event as we recognize winners in six award categories:
  • Career Advancement for Women
  • CREW-St. Louis Impact
  • Economic Impact
  • Leadership in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within the Industry
  • New Member of the Year
  • Woman of Influence
As mentioned during my last President’s Message, I strongly encourage everyone to join a CREW-St. Louis Committee. Your involvement not only enhances your CREW Membership but quite frankly strengthens your career by networking with ambitious and fun professionals in the local CRE Community. And for those of you already on a committee, or maybe several Committees, I encourage you to take on leadership positions within the Chapter to strengthen and advance your network and skills.

To that end, we will send our annual request to all CREW-St. Louis Members asking you to inform the Nomination Committee of your interest in leadership opportunities within our chapter. This includes serving at (1) the Advisory Board level as a Committee Chair or Co-Chair and (2) to serve at the Executive Board level as an Officer or Director. Please check out our website for a listing of all Committees and Executive Board positions. Leadership opportunities are powerful in so many ways and CREW has a wonderful reputation of member volunteers supporting all leaders – having their back and getting things done. Please be on the lookout for this nomination email and reach out to Angie Drumm if you have any questions.

In closing, I encourage everyone to join me in supporting the CREW Network Foundation. This is the industry’s only organization that dedicates its resources solely toward transforming the commercial real estate industry by advancing women globally. Your support enables the foundation to bring more women into commercial real estate by offering programs like CREW Careers and UCREW that educate women and girls about the career opportunities in the industry. Resources support CRE higher education and training through college scholarships and internships as well as mentorships to those new to the industry. Some of you, like myself, may have benefited from a similar program like this when you were in college. Please join me in paying this forward to support these young women who need our assistance and encouragement!
