Learn How To Promote Equity

Our upcoming DEI Event is full of insights and surprises! This free event on Aug. 24 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cushman Wakefield in Chesterfield will feature a workshop on understanding and promoting equity in our organizations. It will be facilitated by Gladiator Consulting LLC, with catering from Balkan Treat Box. There also may be drawing with crayons, but nothing more about that can be divulged at this time. We can’t wait!

We also report that we have increased our demographics survey data by a wide margin from past years. Please complete your survey if you have not already done so. All you need to do is go to your profile on the CREW website - it won’t take more than five minutes (for instructions, click here:

This demographic information helps the DEI Committee understand the strengths and weaknesses of our membership in terms of its internal diversity, and then gives us insights on where we need to go! Please note that most, if not all, questions include a “prefer not to disclose” option. If you choose that option for any of the questions, your survey will still be considered complete!

As the school year starts and we gear up for the chaos that new season brings, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we talk about both history and current events with our children. What children of all ages learn at home is as important as what they are formally taught in school. Being intentional about the words we use and the frame we put around both current events and U.S. history really matter. If you use Instagram, take a moment to check out the “Antiracist Education” account. This tool facilitates how we can best explain complicated topics to our children. Growth in this area is a hard thing to do, and sometimes the hard things are the best things.
